Winter Street Market

The Winter Street Market was a great success! Being the first major event that the DKA has put on in almost two years, we really weren’t sure what to expect. But, from one pivot to another we worked with the incredible team at Impact Events and successfully brought back the Winter Street Market for 2021!
The morning kicked off with a lovely snowfall that really brought some Christmas magic to the market. Santa’s Headquarters and the stage went up, the Christmas trees came out, and the vendor tents were decorated with lights while kids and adults alike made their way to the Stuart Park ice rink.

Immediately upon opening, people began to pass underneath the Downtown Kelowna arch, buying drink tickets for mulled wine, boozy hot chocolate, and beer being offered by BNA Brewery. Hot apple cider was also on offer for those preferring a non-alcoholic beverage. Mini donuts and tacos fueled guests as they perused the vendors offering local Okanagan goodies. Beeswax candles, sustainable gifts, comfy and fashionable clothing, Egyptian snacks, sun catchers, spa services, juices, and quirky handmade signs could all be found, making it a smashing success for our vendors.

We also had the privilege of hosting Rocky Racoon from the Kelowna Rockets, as well as Lucy Moose and Loose Moose from Big White. High fives were doled out as often as selfies were taken at the Downtown Kelowna selfie wall.

By afternoon, the market was in full swing with performers like Dawson Gray, Double Sharp, Naveah Dyson, Mitch Zorn, Aaron Loewen, Ben Klick, and The Zamboni Brothers.

At Santa’s HQ, kids were telling Santa all their Christmas wishes and getting photos with Kris Kringle himself. Those who couldn’t make it in to see him had the chance to write him letters at our Santa writing station with the promise of having a response by Christmas. Santa also took some time at the end of the market to hear some last-minute Christmas wishes!

As the sun went down, the lights turned on and people began to gather at Stuart Park in anticipation of the 32nd annual tree lighting ceremony. Mayor Basran had the honour of throwing the switch to light the tree in the 32nd annual Light Up in Stuart Park.

…and with that the Winter Street Market was officially over for 2021.
We want to thank everyone for making it such a memorable event and we look forward to seeing you in 2022!
